Reclaimed shelves.

So, helped out the hubby in the shed today. We moved around some things to make way for the furniture making he is continuing. I am always reluctant to help out in this area - it can be messy and loud, not quite a drawcard for me. But, the end result always impresses me.

The ability to take an old ugly piece of timber and turn it into something beautiful and useable is amazing. I think hubby was the person who showed me how to appreciate timber and to salvage what we can, when we can. Although we sold a lot of our timber before we moved up here, we are beginning to replenish our stash.

Today we took four pieces of hardwood and stripped them back to show up all of the beautiful lines and knots in the timber. My job was to push the timber through the machine. About half an hour later we had some great new shelves.

I think they turned out great. So, stay tuned as we will have a lot more beautiful pieces in store soon.

Making time.

I found myself feeling stressed and anxious this morning. So much to do and so little time in the day. The sky was grey and muted by the clouds - I could smell the rain in the distance. I took a breath and decided to wander the garden to clear my head.

The smell of roses has almost the same effect as lavender to me - a calm soothing smell that takes over my senses and makes me feel feminine and alive.

My thoughts are wrapped up in the shop right now. But, there is another big event that has me contemplating and wondering what it will be like - our youngest starts school on thursday and I wonder if he will be brave and take it in his stryde. Will he cry? Will I cry? Will he make friends? Will he like school? So much to worry about.

Many things cross our minds during the day and many things float away just like the clouds but its important you take the time to *smell the roses* pardon the pun , I am a true believer in this task. One minute, thirty seconds or even just a glance and a big exhale out is all you need sometimes.

In the beginning

It's been 6 months since hubby, the kids and I decided to move to Castlemaine. It was the biggest thing we had ever done...or so I thought. We got married a couple of months later and then began renovating our 1940's weatherboard home. However, it gets even bigger...then we decided we would embark on opening a shop. So, for the past three months we have been working extremely hard on things like securing a lease, buying shop fitting, making stock to sell, networking and setting up. Phew. I feel exhausted just writing that! We are about two weeks from opening now and I thought 'well lets start up a blog for our little shop.' So here it is our first post, hopefully many more to come as we begin this adventure.
